Paying for Senior Home Care Services

Though rare, some families use a financial instrument called a Reverse Mortgage to use the equity value of their home to pay for home care services.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Seniors with long-term care insurance may have specific coverage for home care. These policies, which are distinct from regular health insurance, are often purchased through an insurance agency and can provide financial assistance for in-home care needs. These policies are purchased by individuals in their mid-50s to cover the potential cost of care later in life.

Medical Insurance

While most health and medical insurance plans don’t cover in-home personal care, it’s worth checking with the insurance provider to see if any coverage is available. Although Medicare doesn’t currently cover home care, some states offer in-home care benefits through Medicaid.
