Frequently Asked Questions

What home care benefits are available for veterans in Guilford County?

At Options Home Care, we help eligible veterans throughout Greensboro and Guilford County access in-home care that allows them to remain comfortable and safe at home. Depending on eligibility and care needs, services can include personal care, companionship, and support with daily living through coordinated programs connected to veterans’ affairs resources.

Many of our veteran clients receive care through the VA’s Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care program. This program is part of VA health benefits and provides non-medical assistance in the home to help veterans remain safe and independent.

As an accredited VA community care provider, Options Home Care can be paid directly by the VA to provide approved home care services.

To qualify, veterans must:

  • Be registered for VA health benefits
  • Complete an assessment with a VA physician to determine care needs
  • Receive approval for home care services
  • Be assigned a VA social worker who then coordinates care with Options Home Care

Once approved, we work closely with the VA and the assigned social worker to deliver consistent, personalized care at home. We can also help you through the application process.

Some veterans and surviving spouses might also qualify for additional support through programs such as VA Aid and Attendance, which can help cover non-medical home care costs depending on service history, discharge status, care needs, and financial guidelines.

Yes. Many veterans prefer receiving care at home rather than relocating to a nursing home or other facility. Through support connected to the Veterans Administration, families can often arrange long-term care that allows loved ones to remain in familiar surroundings while still receiving the assistance they need. In some cases, services are coordinated through the VA directly as a direct result of a veteran’s care needs and eligibility.

Yes. Our team includes dedicated V.A. support professionals who help qualified veterans and their families understand attendance benefits, gather documentation, and move through the application process with more clarity and less stress. We also help families better understand available VA health care benefits and how they relate to ongoing care needs (including companion care).

Not necessarily. Many veterans qualify because they need help with bathing, dressing, mobility, meal preparation, or other daily activities. A doctor’s recommendation showing the need for assistance with everyday care is often part of the qualification process, especially for veterans with qualifying military service histories.

Yes. In some cases, surviving spouses may qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits if they were married to the veteran at the time of passing and meet financial and care-related eligibility requirements. Some families may also qualify for a monthly pension that helps offset the cost of care at home.
